The model 1812 Plus is a unique telephone intercom system that allows homeowners to use their telephone as an intercom to speak to a guest at a front door or gate without the necessity to pay for an additional telephone line at their home. With its "intercom mode" programming feature, the 1812 can also be connected to a PBX or KSU type system, making it ideal for small businesses to control access through a single door or gate. Visitors are easily identified by voice communication and can be granted or denied access directly from a touch-tone telephone. Outstanding telephonic access control. Excellent service from gatehouse supplies for a unit used to replace one damaged by a very close lightning strike. Would purchase again and from this supplier if needed in future.

    Well here goes.

i had a crown jewel, upgraded with a tac2c... biggest mistake.
    TAC2C is horrible!!

But, this unit is amazing. it cost twice as much but it comes with everything i like

    -back-lit keypad and call button.
    -looks sleek
-looks like i can self fix this unit. every piece inside can be replaced with ease.

    I recommend this one definitely.

    thanks gatehouse for your service!

I replaced a Crown Jewel unit with this one. It doesn't have the ability to program from your computer and send down a series of changes, meaning you need to be at the unit to enter in the programing steps. Doing one or two changes by phone may be possible (I haven't tried it yet), but it is just as easy to go down to the gate and do it.

It also doesn't have the ability to store and download the list of who entered when, but I really never needed those fun facts anyway.

The access codes are 5 digits, as opposed to 4, a slight difference.

Finally, it doesn't have all the features of holiday programming, etc. that the Crown Jewel has, but those were just confusion factors for me.
