Genuine LiftMaster L979M wireless keypad — the keypad LiftMaster now supplies in place of the 878MAX, 877MAX and 877LM. It works with every LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman opener with a white, yellow, purple or red/orange learn button — Security+ 3.0, Security+ 2.0 and the 315 / 390 MHz Security+ openers back to 1997 — so one keypad covers almost every opener a household is likely to own. Illuminated keys, one-touch close, temporary guest PINs and a 9 V battery, in the box.
Check the colour of the learn button on the back of your opener before you order. White, yellow, purple or red/orange: this L979M. Green (1993–1997): the L979U, which adds the green Billion Code radio and most other brands. Security+ 3.0 white button only and you want myQ PIN management from the app: the L979S is a few dollars less. No learn button at all: the opener predates 1993 and takes no current keypad.

Replacing an older keypad
LiftMaster has stopped making every keypad below. The L979M is the direct replacement for all of them except the green-button models, which need the L979U.

Also fits LiftMaster gate operators. The LA400, LA412 and LA500 swing-arm operators and the CSL24U / CSW24U / RSL12U / RSW12U slide and swing operators learn this keypad exactly like a garage opener. If your operator was installed before 2012 or has an external receiver box, send us its model before you order.
Common questions
How do I program it?
Press and release the learn button on the opener, then enter the 4-digit PIN you want on the keypad and press ENTER. The opener light flashes or the receiver clicks to confirm. The full step-by-step, including temporary PINs and multiple openers, is in the leaflet in the box.
Does it work with my gate operator?
LiftMaster's Security+ 2.0 gate operators (LA400, LA412, LA500, CSL24U, CSW24U, RSL12U, RSW12U) use the same yellow-button receiver as the garage openers and learn the keypad the same way. Medium- and light-duty commercial door operators need the keypad switched out of its Security+ 3.0 default first — the leaflet shows how, or call us. Operators with an external receiver: send us the receiver model before you order.
Is the one-button close feature on every opener?
No. It needs an opener built in 2006 or later and does not work through an external receiver. On older openers you enter the PIN to close as well as to open.
What battery does it take?
One 9 V alkaline, included. Expect a year or more; the LED dims and the keypad gets sluggish when it is low.
I already have a 878MAX / 877MAX and only need the cover.
The 041D0621 flip-up cover fits the 877MAX and 878MAX. It does not fit the L979 series.
